Fountain Pen

I’m playing Linux in my home computer and with the Cloud, but I always forget where I wrote my work history immediately (:0), so I am rather using paper notebooks than software tools. I was not so particular about fountain pens, but once I started using them, I found out that there is so called converter and tried to use it. At first I didn’t know what a converter was. Usually a cartridge is used just to connect to a fountain pen, but a converter has the same connection as a cartridge and is designed to suck up ink from an ink bottle after it is attached to the fountain pen. In other words, it is designed to convert a cartridge fountain pen into an ink-sucking fountain pen.

Fountain pen converter and cartridge

I am using very normal ink right now, but when I run out, I’d like to try something a little more particular next time. By the way, a converter uses about 0.5cc for one shot and the ink bottle is 60cc, so I have to replace it 120 times before it runs out. I would like to use the next ink as soon as possible, but it seems that I have to write a lot of letters for that (:-).

AWS

I was considering purchasing a mini-computer such as Beelink or Minisforum after a series of unfortunate freezes with the dynabook N40 and Linux. But suddenly I realized that the second computer would be a

  • Cloud PC

The industry calls them many different names, including VDI, DaaS, AVD…etc, but I think it is important to define the term in a way that is a little easier to visualize for those who have not used such things before.
Ten years ago, when I was still an active computer geek (:-), this type of service was still in its infancy, slow, expensive, and impractical. In the past 10 years, technology and services have advanced dramatically, and among them, AWS becomes the Cloud giant that is trying to stand apart from the rest in this highly competitive world, where major companies are investing nearly $10b every year. The services are so variety and many that even as a systems engineer may lose their way. But at last I found for my “Home Cloud computer” in personal use, so called AWS Workspaces service seems to fit the purpose, so I will try it so immediately.

Cloud Personal Computer

The cloud is in full swing in the world (:-). In the early days, the term “Cloud” was used to refer to application services (SaaS?) such as those represented by Salesforce.com, but nowadays, a variety of services have sprung up, and the so-called IT terms such as IaaS, DaaS, VDI, AVD, etc. are flooding the market, including service names. Even I, a self-proclaimed system engineer, have no idea what many of these terms mean, so I suspect that many people in the general public think that it is a strange and unfamiliar world.
However, I believe that it is the responsibility of the specialists to ensure that their terminology is understood by non-specialists, so I think that engineers have a responsibility to define words in a unified, easy-to-understand manner, but I don’t see any such atmosphere in the IT industry (;-). However, it is a very unfortunate situation because I believe that there are many things in the Cloud that are actually useful for non-professionals to use.
The dynabook N40 that my child was using at home was no longer being used, so I had been playing with Linux on it, but I was considering buying a new computer because I felt it had reached its limits, but then another idea suddenly came into my mind:

  • A second computer could be Cloud One?

Those of you in the IT industry or those who are already using it for work may be able to imagine it, but I am afraid that who not in the IT industry may have no idea what I mean (;-o). To put it simply.

  • Borrow a computer on the Internet and use it like a personal computer.

In this IT world, it is sometimes called VDI, but for me, it is more like

  1. Internet PC
  2. Cloud PC

I would like to name it either 1. internet PC or 2. cloud PC. It is indecisive of me to say that the definition of a word is important, but I am still unable to decide on one, but I would like to consider more and decide which term to use soon.
